*Always* “something went wrong”. And no navigation to home except back-back-back

I love the Economist and am a very long-time subscriber: this refers specifically to how bad this iPad app is. It is broken is in at least two ways and I hope a one-star review might get the developers to focus, as Lord knows nothing else will.
1. This is very long-standing, but if there is a home button I have never found it. To get from an article back to the front page the only way is back, back, back, or force-quit. This is *crazy*. If I am wrong then developers: make it more obvious than “completely buried”.
2. I get a lot of the Economist newsletters and that tends to be my start-point for interacting with articles. If I use my iPad — and I want to use it for this kind of reading, without fail I get a screen saying “something went wrong. We couldn’t load this story. Please wait a moment a try again”. Well, apparently developers, it’s been untold months and this is me giving up.
Worse then ever

You finally got the message that some readers don’t care about the digital gimmicks that were ruining the experience and added the option to download only the print edition. However, I have to stare for a very extended time at the loading icon before seeing EVERY SINGLE article. Also, none of the images download. I’m amazed that an organization of such brilliant people can be so chronically stupid on the basics of digital experience. I beg you, fire every decision maker who has touched your digital offering and contract with the first person you run into on the street on your way home. You’ll be able to stop the exorbitant rate hikes and your readers will get the basic experience they expect.
Terrible App; Great Reporting

I love this magazine and I’ve been listening for 7 years now. But the app is horrible. The latency is crazy, it’s super buggy and unintuitive. It’s a chore to access my favorite podcasts
Biased

I’m a political atheist, I don’t take sides. Unfortunately, The Economist is just another biased publication siding with one side of the same problem. Propagandists passing for journalists.
Enough

This app is just a vehicle to shove more ads in your face, even if you have a subscription. Stick to the web browser and use an ad blocker.
I’m so sick of this practice.
Very buggy

Docking two stars: Viewing weekly edition no longer works well without reliable internet connection. Can’t rotate into landscape mode. Too easy to leave app streaming audio when unintended.
audio queue

By Frankzhlew
was it just me or did you take away the function to edit the audio queue? now i can only listen to ALL the weekly articles in YOUR order?
oh i found a workaround. you have to go to each track and press the three dots and add to queue. but now there’s no way to add all tracks in a section together to the queue.
i don’t understand: why did you change it? and it’s now more cumbersome than before.
AAAND all audio tracks are now AI narrated with dubious inflections and pauses. do you really hate the audio feature so much? to many people, this is where the economist stands out: human narrated articles that we can listen to while driving and doing brainless work. if you kill it, i might as well switch to WSJ that comes free from my university.
Audio plays out of order

By reader998
When the audio version of a story is finished, the app SHOULD play the next story in the issue. Indeed, this is what the app used to do. Now, when a story is finished, it starts playing whatever story you were in the middle of the last time you opened the app. So if I’m listening to a story in the United States section, it then jumps to the middle (not even the beginning) of a story in the Britain section. This is because that’s the story I was listening to the last time I used the app. This bug makes it impossible to listen to the articles in order, which is exactly what I want to do.
I almost exclusively consume the audio version. If this bug isn’t fixed, I will be forced to cancel my subscription.
Audio totally ruined

Audio playback has been ruined with the recent update. Before, you could start playback at any article and it would play it and all following articles in sequence. Now it plays one article and stops. If there is a queue, it will instead jump to the next article in the queue. And there is no way to delete the queue. Audio playback is impossible for me to use.
