  • Couldn’t even get started…

So I was curious about this app and its benefits so I signed up for the free trial with intentions to continue using it (and paying for it) if I liked it. Only to run into some sort of bug that wouldn’t allow me to even get into the app. I was stuck on the “start your free trial” page when I already started it. When clicking on it, it just told me I was already subscribed and I was stuck. Immediately cancelled my free trial and deleted my account. Bummer. So be aware of this potential bug when making an account I guess.

I love this app. If you used Mint.com, then this is for you. My only feedback is that it won’t bring in Principal accounts, such as my annuity. Even after trying several ways with different APIs. Please fix!

For me, I always want to be able to look at categorization of expenses overtime. Monarch has in the reports function and allows. You all the flexibility to be able to set it up well.
  • So glad mint went away!

I was very disappointed to lose access to mint. I spent the last year looking for a replacement. Finally landed on Monarch. The feel is similar to mint but so much more functionality! Very happy to pay for an amazing app!!

I like the app and I am trying to learn how to use the app. I would like to see instructions on how to open on one’s iPhone. Instructions would have saved me a lot of time. Thanks

Clean interface, no bloated junk or advertisements like mint. Nice to not be the product for a change. My suggestion is to add the ability to also forecast net worth instead of just monthly cash flow.
  • Better than Mint…much better

I, like many others, was a dedicated Mint user for many years. When Intuit shut mint down, I looked at alternatives and settled on Mint. While Mint has an annual fee (and Mint was free), the cost is worth it. I love Monarch even more than Mint. It’s been nearly a year now. Monarch’s rules function actually works (Mint’s never did), so budget categorization is mostly automated—even split transactions! I’m looking forward to using the enhanced budget feature next year that will handle non-monthly expenses, if which I have many. The information and budget information are immensely helpful, as is my retirement goal calculation that lets me see the value of my retirement nest egg from multiple retirement accounts. Hopefully this company doesn’t get bought out and then ruined… Recommended!!
  • 360 View of Joint Finances

This has been super helpful for our joint finances and budgeting. Transactions show up quickly and the app is full of excellent visualizations that keep us on track. I love the graph of this month’s spending versus same time last month. Super easy to move money between budget line items, and I love that I can have budget for each line item or for overarching category. My only improvement is sometimes the transaction review component gets stuck if I make any edits (like if I click into the categories to select the right one). But that’s small and easily resolved by closing the interface and reopening it. Really appreciate having this app!!
  • By far the best

I downloaded and tried out 6 of the top personal finance tools, and Monarch Money is by far the best. For your budget, when you sign up it automatically groups your past spend by category, based on the connection to your banks. You can adjust it all, but you're not starting from scratch like in Your Need A Budget (YNAB). There are three different services (Plaid, Finicity, and MX) that you can use to connect your banks, which is great. One of my financials institutions just wouldn't connect on any of the other apps, which only had one connector service - but Monarch could thanks to the backup service. The best feature is the Goals display. I love having one spot to see how much I'm saving total per goal! It's so motivating! I have saved so much money since downloading Monarch, and it feels fun rather than depriving because I want to meet my goal! In contrast to other apps, your can connect multiple accounts to a savings goal (say saving for a car, or an emergency fund), either all of the account balance or partial. So you could say assign $5k from this account to my car, then the rest of it goes to my emergency fund.

This is orders of magnitude better than Mint. I wish I had discovered it sooner
