This service has declined rapidly. Not worth the money.

With the company being bought for $4.7 billion back in 2020 you would think the app would be better. It’s very confused when it comes to the tree. The tree doesn’t understand that people can have multiple parents (biological and adopted) yes it gives you those drop downs but when it summarizes a persons life it doesn’t include that they were adopted. It also gets confused vice versa saying that a child is the child of the step dad when I do have the biological father labeled in the tree. The referral from the email where it says Learn More just brings you back to the app at no specific spot just goes back to where you last were so I can’t send referrals. The app needs to be updated and “smarter.”

Definitely a dishonest company. They merged/migrated the dna apps. I tried doing a simple download on my DNA, and it continued to not work so I purchase a higher tier and basically was told I had to order a even higher tier to download my original DNA that was paid for. I can view it but not download it. Aside from this problem, the entire interface leads you down paths of in-app purchase, not advertised.
  • Worthless cause you have to pay for a addition news paper subscription

They charge you $25 dollars to cancel the subscription. Do not bother.
  • Not what it used to be to be…

I think this company has gotten greedy. I use to get my yearly membership and it included my DNA matches with their trees. Now I have to get a different subscription for the DNA part. I’m really unhappy about this. I will tell others not to use this DNA company.
  • Great design, poor performance (FIXED)

(Updated Dec. 7, 2024 - the problems described below have been fixed so I’ve changed my rating from 2 stars to 4. Unfortunately, their subscriptions are exorbitantly priced and their DNA privacy practices are unclear.) Ancestry for iOS has a well-designed layout and a clean look, but is extremely buggy and unoptimized on both iPhone and iPad, particularly the latter when working with larger trees. The Tree section of the app glitches and lags around at all times when attempting to navigate around the tree. Extended branches (even one or two generations) will randomly close causing you to lose your place in the tree. Additionally, branches always close and revert to the default screen when switching back and forth between apps, making research outside of the app impossible. (I have the newest iOS and Ancestry app version and have tried reinstalling and re-logging in.)
  • I already paid for this!

I paid for the DNA testing now. They want me to pay for everything else! At least with 23 and me it includes everything you can see relationships so forth on here they want you to pay for everything you wanna find out! It’s ridiculous! And they charge more for the original DNA testing! What a rip off!
  • Beware of cancellation fee

I tried ancestry.com for 2 months, paying the monthly fee, but did not see a lot of value. Was difficult and confusing to use; everything of interest (eg newspapers) required an additional subscription fee. In total paid $60+ but got little value so cancelled my subscription and they charged me an additional $25 cancellation fee!
  • App is NOT USER FRIENDLY

Horrible, horrible, horrible! Navigating this app is a nightmare and linking profiles to your family tree. I wish I didn’t waste my money on this….
  • My tree was altered

I came into my the to find that relationships had been severely altered. I have spent thousands of dollars and years and years building my tree only to have it extensively changed without my knowledge nor permission.
