SkySafari makes stargazing a simple pleasure. It has the largest database of any astronomy app, includes every comet, asteroid, satellite & solar system object ever discovered, offers unparalleled accuracy, advanced planning and logging tools, flawless telescope control, and provides the very best experience under the stars when you depend on it. Don’t postpone joy. Discover why SkySafari is the #1 recommended astronomy app for serious amateur astronomers since 2009. Here's what’s new in version 7: + Complete support for iOS 18 and iPhone 16. Version 7 brings a new and immersive stargazing experience. + Events Finder - go to the new Events section to unlock a powerful search engine that finds astronomical events visible tonight and far into the future. The finder dynamically generates a listing of moon phases, eclipses, planetary moon events, meteor showers and planetary phenomenon such as conjunctions, elongations and oppositions. + Notifications - the notifications section has been completely revamped to allow you to customize and manage which events trigger an alert notification on your device. + Telescope Support - telescope control is at the heart of SkySafari. Version 7 takes a giant leap forward by supporting ASCOM Alpaca, INDI & StarSense Explorer. These next generation control protocols allow you to effortlessly connect to hundreds of compatible astronomical devices. SkySafari 7 brings social stargazing to mobile devices with two new features to help you connect with other like minded people. OneSky - allows you to see what other users are observing, in real time. This feature highlights objects in the sky chart and indicates with a number how many users are observing a particular object. SkyCast - allows you to guide a friend or group around the night sky through their own copy of SkySafari. After initiating SkyCast, you can generate a link and conveniently share it with other SkySafari users via text message, apps or social media accounts. + Sky Tonight - jump to the new Tonight section to see what’s visible in your sky tonight. Expanded information has been designed to help plan your night and includes Moon & Sun info, calendar curations, events and the best positioned deep sky and solar system objects. + Improved Observation Tools - SkySafari is the perfect tool to help you plan, record and organize your observations. New workflows make it easier to add, search, filter and sort data. + Home Screen and Lock Screen Widgets keep your favorite astro information at your fingertips. The Small Touches: + You can now edit the Jupiter GRS Longitude Value in the Settings. + Better Moon Age calculation. + New grid & reference options allow you to display Solstice and Equinox markers, Orbit + Node markers for all solar system objects, and tick marks and labels for the Ecliptic, Meridian, and Equator reference lines. + Previous In-app Purchases are Now Free - this includes the H-R diagram, 3D Galaxy view, and the PGC galaxy and GAIA star catalogs. Enjoy. + Many more. If you haven't used SkySafari 7 Pro before, here's what you can do with it: + Hold your device up, and SkySafari 7 Pro will find stars, constellations, planets, and more! + Simulate the night sky up to 5MM years in the past or future! Animate meteor showers, conjunctions, eclipses, and other celestial events. + Control your telescope, log and plan your observations. + Optionally backup all of your observing data in our secure cloud storage and make it easily accessible to multiple devices as well as from our new web interface, LiveSky.com. + Augmented Reality (AR) mode + Night Vision. + Orbit Mode. • I my opinion, version 6 was better

If I knew a few annoying things of version 7, I would have not updated. For example, I cannot get rid of a reminder to activate notifications every time I open the application. Also, the user interface has gone backwards instead of improving.

SkySafari 7 Pro is a workable addition to the SkySafari family of apps. After re-booting my iPhone and deleting SkySafari 6 Pro, I was forced to finally upgrade as it is no longer offered. SkySafari 7 Pro comes complete with all the add-ons I had purchased before. When I finally discovered how to change the toolbar, I was happy. The theme of SkySafari 7 Pro is connectivity and storage. As if we were short on social media. Not. I have rendered those aspects of the toolbar, “NEVER.” Also, the H-R diagram here is a little wacky. I turn it on, and re-size it for a corner. If I touch it again, it disappears! Even when “on”. I have to download the app from scratch to retrieve the H-R diagram. Where does it go? All in all, it is still the best view of the sky in apps.
  • Asks NON-STOP for permission to send notifications!

This is a great app that has inexplicably gone downhill: EVERY time I open it, it informs me that in iOS settings, I have failed to give it permission to send me notifications that I’ve told it DOZENS OF TIMES that I don’t want!!! Even in the past, it allowed me to click on DON’T #@*&%*! ask me again - and then it asked anyway. Duh. I’m smart enough to know I turned these settings off. Please be smart enough to STOP PESTERING ME!!! Then you’ll go back to 5 stars.

I foolishly upgraded to “Pro” version only to find incessant nagging to upgrade to “Premium”.

Lots of stuff for sure. Not intuitive to use really at all. Accessing the account/log in to delete doesn’t work and there doesn’t seem to be a way to change the password. The augmented reality didn’t work until I subscribed to additional subscription fee. 50+ bucks for the first year? Wow. Live view just crashes..iPhone 14 plus pro? If you don’t have to have this for it’s controller functionality get something else. Was really excited to try this until it became apparent I should take a class to use this app and the functionality may or may not work.
  • Comet is premium only

Paid the steep app price of $24.99 only to learn that I need to pay an extra $29.99 for premium to see the comet. No thank you.
  • Good App but Bait and Switch

I have owned, used, and upgraded SkySafari over the years. I wanted to use it this week to try to view Comet C/2023 A3. My version did not show it, and a pop-up urged me to upgrade to SkySafari Pro 7 for $24.99. I paid and upgraded, only to then find I needed to pay for a Premium Membership to see info on the comet. Again I did so, and yet when I use the live view of my night sky, the comet is nowhere to be found, and a search for it in the app finds nothing. I am very disappointed.
  • Incredibly comprehensive and capable. Bad UI and defaults.

Defaults all set up for connecting to your scope, which I assume is fun and rewarding. If you don’t have a scope, you’ll have to futz with things you won’t find to get what you want. Waste of time. I used to love this app.

I wish I hadn’t wasted $25 on this. SkyPortal was much better. This thing connects to my telescope, but then there’s no way to operate it or tell it anything else no controls work Celestron 9.25 evolution by the way. Tinkering with it during the day almost every single thing I want to look at in this app requires more money in the form of a subscription upgrade to premium Yeah no.
