    We have been waiting for years to get to Hawaii! The Shaka guide was the best way to see all the sights and feel like we didn’t miss things, but go at our own pace. It was wonderful!!

    UPDATE: Based on the developer’s response, I updated my review from 4 to 5 stars. My concern was not a software change, but a deliberate choice based on their desire to make the journey around Lake Tahoe scenic and safe. Thank you! Last year (2025) we loved the Shaka Guide we bought for the Redwoods in California. This year, I bought the guide for the Lake Tahoe area. The content was excellent and very helpful, but one new change confused us and made it almost impossible to use. The guide would only play in numerical order for the various points of interest. It would not reverse itself based on direction of travel. Last year, it would switch itself whether we were driving northbound or southbound. I had to manually choose the info to play when we were going “backwards” and we missed several points because of the confusion. Of course it’s possible I was using the app wrong. 🤦‍♀️ If that’s the case and there’s a setting I should’ve changed, it wasn’t obvious in the settings. Despite this, I will still recommend Shaka Guides to friends and family.

    I couldn’t recommend this enough. This was super great! It was educational and entertaining at the same time. We are a family of four with two daughters, a 17yo and a 20yo, and we all loved it. Used it mainly for our Road to Hana and our Sunrise and Sunset Haleakala trips. 100% highly recommend!

  • The Best Thing We Bought for Our Entire Hawaii Vacation

    Shaka Guide didn’t just make our trip better—it completely transformed it. We used nearly all of the tours on both Maui and Oahu, and I can honestly say it was the single best purchase we made for our vacation. What surprised me most was how much my family learned, especially my children. We expected navigation and sightseeing tips, but we didn’t expect to come away with such a deep appreciation for Hawaii’s history, culture, and people. The storytelling is absolutely phenomenal. As we traveled around the islands, the guides introduced us to Hawaiian history, legends, important historical figures, and cultural traditions in a way that was engaging and easy to understand. Later, when we visited places like Pearl Harbor, ʻIolani Palace, Kualoa Ranch, the North Shore, and other sites, my children would recognize names, statues, and landmarks from the stories they had heard during the tours. They were genuinely excited to make those connections, and it turned what could have been “just another stop” into something meaningful and memorable. Another thing we loved was how helpful the navigation was. We absolutely would have missed numerous turnoffs, overlooks, and points of interest without the guide. Having Shaka Guide essentially riding shotgun meant we knew exactly when to slow down, where to turn, and which hidden gems were coming up. It also introduced us to places we never would have known existed and likely would never have found on our own. Shaka Guide made the islands come alive. Instead of simply seeing beautiful scenery, we understood what we were seeing and why it mattered. We left Hawaii with a much greater appreciation for its people, culture, history, and traditions. The flexibility was also amazing. We could travel at our own pace, stop wherever we wanted, linger at favorite spots, and skip others without the pressure of a group tour. It felt like having an incredibly knowledgeable local guide riding along with us the entire time. We’ve taken many family vacations over the years, and very few purchases have delivered this much value. The memories, knowledge, and appreciation we gained because of Shaka Guide are priceless. If you’re visiting Hawaii, download Shaka Guide before you arrive. It will enrich your trip in ways you don’t expect and help create memories that last long after the vacation is over.     The tour of the Grand Loop on O’ahu was really good. Just the right balance of directions, suggested stops and interesting facts about the island. I also appreciated the mellow and appropriate music between the spoken sections. Nice touch.

    Have used some other audio tours and this is the best by far. Very entertaining, good mix of history, nature, stories, and humor while making sure we saw the best. Plus, played great related blue grass music in between the talking.

    Great directions GPS works very well. Highly recommend. My only suggestion is on the return trip point out all the way out stops incase you had to skip them.

    Traveled to Maui with my in-laws, husband and our 6-year old daughter and we were all engaged, informed and entertained by the tour and the music along the way. Felt like we paid for a premium tour but in the comfort of our own car. Highly recommend.
