  • Reuters Sold Freedom From Bias. It Delivered a Campaign.

Reuters still sells itself as the wire that does not take a side. Its Trust Principles promise independence and freedom from bias. The Trump file breaks that promise. The bias is not mainly invented facts. Rating agencies still place Reuters near the center with high factual scores. It is in what is elevated, how it is headed, how long it is kept alive, and what is illustrated until a frame looks like a finding. Headlines deliver the verdict before the second paragraph: an “embrace” of an adversary’s demands, a “baseless” claim, a complaint rather than a dispute, a clash cast so one side is the menace. Loaded labels are instructions, not analysis. The articles then hammer them. Negative material is hunted at the edge of relevance, stripped of proportion, and run until it becomes the story of the man, his appointees, and his family. A remark, a relative’s old business, a court filing, a staffer’s gesture: each is convertible. What can be twisted is twisted. What cannot be proved is packaged as atmosphere. Items that should die in a news cycle are refreshed, re-charted, and left up for days. The same standard does not run in reverse. Trade deals, border numbers, energy output, deregulation, hostages, markets, and the cost-cutting work tied to Elon Musk are seldom led, illustrated, or kept current. When they appear, they arrive as controversy or risk, not as results. Charts finish the job. Color, axes, and repetition turn a thin story into an artifact. Readers remember the graphic, not the caveat. It matters because Reuters is a wholesaler. Newspapers, broadcasters, and aggregators take the copy and the frame with it. A 2018 tweet from a Reuters breaking-news editor — “Blood is on your hands, Mr. President” — was not the style guide, but it matched the newsroom mood the Trust Principles were written to prevent. Accuracy is not fairness. A service that amplifies anything that can soil Trump, his circle, his family, or Musk, and stays quiet on results, is not practicing freedom from bias. It is running a campaign and calling it a wire.

  • Subscription contains a ton of ads

Wish there was an ad-free subscription option. Ads and subscription feels gross, like contaminants in your news source causing bias. But app itself is simple easy access news stories. But it’s ruined by the amount of ads. Just use the website and ad blocker instead of this garbage.

You can’t read articles unless you pay for access. Deleted! Downloaded AP News app, it’s free.
  • Body text font size

I love the app. Use it multiple times during the day. I have tried, unsuccessfully, to change the size of the font used in the body of the article. I end up with giant headlines and the body text stays the same size as before. Would be great if this could be addressed
